EX-RZ presents new line-up at BIMFEST XV

EX-RZ (ex-Red Zebra) has been touring for a while as a duo but now, Peter Slabbynck and Frits Standaert found the time was right to expand the band. And they do this with no-one less then Steven Janssen (Daan, Mark Lanegan) on guitars and with Steve Slingeneyer (Soulwax), who will takes place behind the drumkit.

On BimFest XV they will perform for the very first time with this new line-up.
It will be quite a change of habit for Peter Slabbynck as he explains: "It took me some time to get used playing with a backing track running from a laptop, and now I have to get used again playing with a real four piece band. Although there will still be some electronics to be heared, we also have decided to play those Red Zebra classics songs again like the original versions. Since I didn’t play them myself like that for some years now, this will make the concert even more exciting for everyone!

EX-RZ will perform on the second day of the 100% Belgian and 15th edition of BIMFEST, Saturday December 17th together with à;GRUMH..., A Split-Second, Aroma Di Amore, Signal Aout'42, Struggler, Vita Noctis & Euforic Existence

Crowdfunding campaign started for "Au Plan K": A Photographic Record by Philippe Carly.

This book was born of a desire, a need. An urgency. To bring together in a book for collectors the photos of legendry groups in a legendary venue. Echo and the Bunnymen, A Certain Ratio, Eyeless in Gaza, Bauhaus and Birthday Party all played at the Plan K, as this was where underground music and culture was happening in the late seventies in Brussels. This is also, obviously, where Joy Division gave two unforgettable concerts in October 1979 and January 1980. The photos I took marked my career and travelled the world, like an echo of the tragic destiny of the man that was possessed. The abrupt death of Annik Honoré, the soul of concerts at the Plan K, pushed me to share these and many other photos with the memories of musicians, artists and other people that lived through moments of eternity there that still resonate to this day. Notably through this book…

So the idea is to finance the publication of a good-looking book(1) about the Plan K, the cult Brussels concert hall between 1979 and 1986.
The book will feature all the photos of Joy Division that I took during the two concerts, as well as several photos I took of each concert or performance that I attended(2).
What’s more, the book will be accompanied by the original iconic posters in addition to anecdotes from musicians, artists, employees and journalists(3) that frequented the venue.
I have been thinking about this project for 12 years, brooding over it and working it out in my head. It is now high time to release it, as a witness to this unique place, an amazing era and the key but underestimated role played by Annik Honoré.

It is worth noting that the book is already 95% finished. If this campaign is successful, production of the book can start immediately. So you won’t have to wait months to receive it.

"Two sets of beautiful à;GRUMH... photos, some never seen before, and an interview of S3 are in this forthcoming magnificant book by Philippe Carly (aka Crazy Lobster, the creative mind behind all à;GRUMH... record cover sleeves).

It is now up to YOU if the book becomes reality or not!
Clicking "Like" will not suffice: you need to contribute your hard earned money to the project and most important, we urge you to share this information with all your contacts" (à;GRUMH...)

Underviewer (Pre-Front 242) releases single from the upcoming full length album 'Wonders & Monsters'

Before joining FRONT 242 in 1981 and devoting several decades to this band, Brussels-based artists Patrick Codenys and Jean-Luc De Meyer used to be working together as a duo since 1978 under the UNDERVIEWER moniker, using a bass, synthesizers, rhythm boxes and a tape recorder…

Dormant for over 30 years, UNDERVIEWER recently recovered tracks from their early 4-track tape recordings or even recreated some of them by meticulously reusing the same vintage machines, to prepare the release in December 2016 of their forthcoming full length album “Wonders & Monsters”.

Today they released “Nobody But You”, a 2-track single that will make you fall under the poisonous charm of UNDERVIEWER’s minimal electro pop-wave carried by the distinctive and matchless voice of Jean-Luc De Meyer and fuelled by Patrick Codenys’ sharp and modern production style.

UNDERVIEWER will play on BIMFEST XV - DAY 1 - Friday December 16th together with Suicide Commando, Dive and Super Dragon Punch!

EX-RZ covers The Cure's '17 Seconds' with Fenne Kuppens (Whispering Sons) as guest vocalist!

Rock Rally winners of this year, Whispering Sons have something to do with the 80's and that’s what Peter Slabbynck (formerly Red Zebra, now EX-RZ) also heard.

For years, it was his dream to cover '17 Seconds' by The Cure. Every time when Robert Smith sings “and the girl starts to sing ', Slabbynck really imagined a girl started to sing then.

It was a long wait to find the right singer, but this year the waiting was rewarded when Slabbynck heard Whispering Sons. Slabbynck contacted singer Fenne Kuppens who fancied the idea. The result is a cover with a surprising additional vote.

Incidentally Slabbynck was in 1980 with Red Zebra in the finals of Humo's Rock Rally. Two Rock Rally-finalists with a difference of 36 years of working together. Besides, in 1980, Red Zebra played in Ghent the support of... (yes) The Cure.

'17 Seconds' (including video) appears on October 21 on all digital platforms through Starman Records.
